“The heart filled with thankfulness is closest to the riches of the universe.”

– Anonymous
As the holiday of Thanksgiving approaches, we are reminded of just how incredibly thankful we are for our colleagues, families, friends, a network that is hard-working, and for the amazing clients whose teams we support and encourage as they go through constant improvement.

We are thankful for the way you routinely display great passion for your work and how you let us be a part of that; for the way you remain intensely focused on growing; and for the countless ways you have trusted us to help in your professional, corporate and even personal success.

As many of us get ready to journey down the highway or airways to gather together with those we care for…or are waiting for them to come to us, we send you a heartfelt message of Thanksgiving and sincerest wishes for safe travels.

“He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has” – Epictetus

With the crush of both the holiday season and the call to find new opportunities or add new clients in these last business days of the year, it is so easy to get caught up in the wake of that rush and never take time to be still and be wholly thankful. Regardless of exactly what this year has brought for each of us so far, we still, each one, have been blessed with much. As W. T. Purkiser said, “[It is] not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them, [that] is the true measure of our thanksgiving.”

Stop for a moment and think about this: when was the last time you focused your reflection on what you truly have achieved and what strengths you have to be thankful for, regardless of the perspective of others? And more importantly, when was the last time you found yourself truly emphasizing the efficient use of these strengths for more future success — success you will be thankful for…?

Our two greatest professional responsibilities are to invest the talents we have been gifted with and to reinvest, or build on, the successes we have had in the advancement of our future achievements to make a daily positive impact on others. Take time to be thankful for your achievements. Use those to move forward.

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.” – Melody Beattie

I also hope you will take a moment this holiday to directly thank someone, specifically, for something they did — whether that is a family member, a friend, a coworker, a BIG client (or a little one) or a stranger who somehow touched you. In taking the time to be directly thankful, you are giving a gift that is often in short supply yet lies in infinite storage. In giving it, you will likely discover the more you give, the more you’ll have to give away again.

“Gratitude is something of which none of us can give too much.” – Inspirational quote by A. J. Cronin

When it comes to expressing gratitude, what goes around most assuredly comes around – again and again. Complain, and you will have more to complain about….Give out plenty of thank you’s, and you discover you will have plenty to be thankful for….I am not suggesting you ignore what is wrong. If something is broken, rather than complain, provide a list of ideas on how to fix that thing, and take decisive action.

It’s truly amazing how much power the simple little words ‘thank you’ pack, isn’t it? These are a small investment that pays immeasurable returns. Cicero had this to say on the topic: “Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all the others.” There’s no doubt that expressing an attitude of gratitude pays immeasurable benefits, not only to the recipient of the kind words of appreciation, but also to the one giving the thanks as well.

“To speak gratitude is courteous and pleasant, to enact gratitude is generous and noble, but to live gratitude is to touch Heaven.” – by Johannes A. Gaertner

So, as this Thanksgiving Day approaches, let us remember to give thanks for not only the blessings we enjoy today, but for the promise of blessings to come. Reach out to others with a kind word, reassure them when they have been down, and pat others on the back when they do well. Look for ways to build your teammates up for a bright future.

All, thanks to you for the multitudes of ways you have enriched my life and continue to encourage me to be a better leader each day.

Here’s wishing you and your families all the best this holiday season has to offer.

Now, let’s close this day’s challenge with more reminders to…

Be Thankful

Be thankful that you don’t already have everything you desire, If you did, what would there be to look forward to…?

Be thankful when you don’t know something For it gives you the opportunity to learn.

Be thankful for the challenging times; During those times you grow.

Be thankful for your limitations Because they give you opportunities for improvement.

Be thankful for each new challenge Because it will build your strength and character.

Be thankful for your mistakes; They will teach you valuable lessons.

Be thankful when you’re tired and weary Because it means you’ve made a difference.

It is easy to be thankful for the good things. A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are also thankful for the obstacles as they become the way.
